Minimalist Side Hustles
There are multiple reasons to have a side hustle.
It could be for fun.
It could be for money.
It could be for something else.
I truly believe that having a side hustle could bring positives to many people’s lives, but not just any side hustle.
A minimalist side hustle.
One that is built for you, by you!
You run it, instead of it running you!
__________
Over 30 years of side hustle experience boils down to this.
I’ve tried dozens of side hustles over the last three-plus decades.
Some were successful, others less.
The one thing the successful ones had in common was that I enjoyed doing them and the required daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
I managed over 30 websites, some for clients, and others for myself.
Guess which ones I enjoyed more? Mine!
Guess which ones earned more at the time? Clients!
I could’ve stuck with my web consulting agency, and grown it even more, but why would I do it if I didn’t enjoy it? At the time, I said it would help me earn more money.
I needed it for “freedom”!
Boy was I wrong!
Just because something makes money quicker, doesn’t mean it’s successful if you don’t enjoy it, and even less if you don’t stick with it.
Everything I do now from my newsletters to writing on Medium, to my community, are things I love doing, in a way I love!
I’ll skip doing things the “guru” way to do it my way.
It’s served me well so far.
__________
Do what you want to do in the way you want to do it.
This is what minimalist side hustles are all about!
It’s not about finding the most profitable option, or what someone else says is the best (or only) way to do something.
They don’t know you!
They don’t know your life!
And they don’t typically want to learn about you, they just want to feed you some cookie-cutter advice that worked (maybe) for them!
I’d love to know you!
But even if I don’t, you must know what works for you and your life.
It’s all about finding a side hustle that fits your schedule and personality.
My kids play competitive hockey, I’m a coach on both teams, which means I spend 15 to 30 hours a week in arenas, and I love it!
I’m not sacrificing that time for my side hustle.
My wife and I go out on date nights, and love travelling.
I’m not sacrificing that time for my side hustle.
I love spending time with my friends and family doing many things.
I’m not sacrificing that time for my side hustle.
I have several hobbies (hockey cards, TV shows, etc).
I’m not sacrificing that time for my side hustle.
Most importantly, you shouldn’t sacrifice any of the things you love for your side hustle, your SIDE hustle should fit within your schedule.
Once you do, you’ll want to make sure you love doing it too!
If you don’t, you won’t stick with it long enough for it to succeed.
Long-term consistency is powerful, and if you enjoy something there’s a much greater chance you’ll stick to it.
__________
Minimalist side hustles are the easiest side hustles to love.
When you decide to go the minimalist route, you build your side hustle around you and what you enjoy.

And guess what?
If you like something today, do it that way.
